    General Information

Under the Laos Trademark Acts, any individuals or entities legally engaging in manufacture or trade of goods or services are entitled to register their trademark, service marks and collective marks in Laos. The time frame for obtaining the registration about 6-7 months.

An application for registration or renewal of a mark in Laos shall cover only one trademark in one class of goods or services.

Document required

1. A notarized Power of Attorney from the applicant (required at filing; a fax copy is acceptable provided that the original is submitted later)

2. 20 specimens of the mark with the size not larger than 80mm x 80 mm and not smaller 50mm x 50mm;
3. Certified copy of any early application/registration;

4. A list of goods/services and the International Classification of respective goods/services (if known);
5. Full name and address of the applicant;

Duration of Protection and Renewal

A registration is valid for ten years from the filing date of the trademark application and can be renewed for unlimited times, each of 10 years. Late renewal is allowed within the 6 month period after the expiration date of the registration upon payment of an additional fee. If the renewal is not made within the above-specified period, the registered mark shall be cancelled.
